Google Business Profile
Most customers meet you before your website
For local businesses the map listing gets seen far more than the homepage. Most are half-filled
What is GBP
The free tool most owners never use right
Google Business Profile — renamed from Google My Business in December 2021 — is a free, powerful way to manage your brand across the Google ecosystem, including Search and Maps. It shows customers your location, attributes, products, and services, and you can link accounts and invite others to help manage it.
Filling in every field is what gets you found. When your keywords match what people search, you show up.

7×more clicks on a complete profile than an incomplete one
2.7×more likely to be considered reputable when the profile is complete
Both figures published by Google
Why it matters
A complete listing builds instant trust
When your information shows up and looks well-maintained, doubts disappear and buyers move
70%more likely to visit a business with a complete profile
50%more likely to buy from one
7×more clicks than an incomplete listing
2.7×more likely to be seen as reputable
All four figures are Google's own published estimates for complete versus incomplete Business Profiles. “Complete” is doing a lot of work in that sentence — it means every field, not just the name and address.

These are the three factors Google itself names for local ranking — not an agency's theory. One of them is fixed by geography, which is precisely why the other two decide who wins the map pack.

What is a Google Business Profile
The free listing that shows your business in Google Search and Maps — renamed from Google My Business in late 2021. It carries your location, hours, categories, services, photos and reviews, and for most local businesses it gets seen far more often than the website does.
Do we keep ownership of the listing
Always. The profile is registered to you and we work as a manager on it. That matters — an agency that claims the listing in its own account can effectively hold your local presence hostage, and recovering it from Google is slow and painful.
What actually decides local ranking
Google names three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search, distance is how close you are to the searcher, and prominence covers reviews, links and general recognition. Distance you can't change — which is why the other two get the attention.
How many reviews do we need
There's no threshold that unlocks anything. What matters is a steady flow rather than a burst, replies to both good and bad ones, and a rating that reads as genuine. A sudden spike of five-star reviews in one week is a pattern Google looks for — and not in a good way.
Can you remove a bad review
Only if it breaches Google's policies — spam, conflict of interest, or content that isn't about a real experience. We can flag those and often get them taken down. A genuine unhappy customer can't be removed, and the right answer there is a well-written public reply.
How should a medical practice reply to reviews
Very carefully. Confirming that someone is a patient, or referencing their treatment, can breach HIPAA even when the reviewer disclosed it themselves. We use responses that thank the reviewer and move the conversation offline without acknowledging any care relationship.
How often should the profile be updated
Posts weekly, photos monthly, and hours updated before every holiday. An abandoned profile is visible to customers and reads as a business that may have closed — a worse signal than having no posts at all.
What if we have multiple locations
Each location needs its own profile, its own categories and its own review flow, all managed under one account. Duplicate or overlapping listings are the most common cause of a location quietly disappearing from the map pack.
Why did our profile get suspended
Usually keyword stuffing in the business name, a virtual office or address that fails verification, or a category mismatch. We audit for those before they trigger a suspension — and we can manage the reinstatement appeal if one has already happened.
